Default headers???

Im new to this forum and I have a quick question about headers. I have read a few things that say you can put Big block chevy headers on 472's with modifications. my question is what kind of modifcations and how difficult would it be to do?

thanks in advance

You need the Cad header flange, look at page 23 in MTS catalog. Cut the old flange off. Some bending to the 454 Chevy pipes will be needed to line up with the flanges, also it can be a real pain to get clearence for the bolts. Tack weld the new flange on while fitted in the car, check all clearences then remove weld or have someone weld the new flanges on.

Check the swap meets section of the forum or junkyards. I don't know if headers are made for that year or if the 68-76 headers can be made to fit. I hate the problems that come with used manifolds.

Sanderson recently released some headers for the 429.

Jason, 472 headers won't work, as the earlier engine have a shared exhaust port in the center (looks like a V6 manifold).
