Default Anyone around here know of 500's in rails?

I am lining up my next "money pit" project after my boat floats again.

I have a few leads on very affordable rolling chassis setup for big blocks already so it would be pretty easy to drop a healthy 500 in one, and FAR less expensive than the Hemi I wanted to build.

Anyone have pictures, videos, details of Caddy powered rails around?? Just curious.

We don't even have a new race track here yet, but worse case scenario I can ship it outter island to run. Build a barge, tow it with my boat! LOL

I like the idea of a lower compression 540 inch engine to start with, cut teeth with, then later add a blower to it, just cause I like to scare myself on occasion.

If you are going to add a blower at some point I would stay with stock stroke as stroking will weaken the crank

WOOHOO!!! savin' me moolah! hehehehe.. good point.. not like 500 is small.. well.. 507 or 514.. 507 in my tow rig..

I am a boost addict.. needed or not.. I live for the kick in the back of the head a nice power adder, pressure type prefered, delivers. hehe

Figure a nice cleaned up, cammed, alum. headed, free flowing and EFI injected 507 outta make for a spry 1600 or so pound toothpick of a car.

This one runs 9.70's on a very mild '76 Eldo motor. RED

Default Twin milled digger

Talked to a guy a few years in a row now at the Good Guys Indy show. He runs twin 500's in a front motored rail. Says he does all the suicidal stuff warned against. Early heads on late 500's. Stock rockers & pushrods.
Says he's been thrashing this setup for over 10 years, and has only broken one rocker. Sounds nuts to me, but what the hey! DJ

I am new to this site and have a 500 front engine digger.
Heres how it goes. pretty much stock has shaft rockers, 10 to 1 comp mild MTS cam ( think maybe a 5-10) home made headers. 2.86 rear gear 30 in tire, small 600 AFB carb 2600 TCI convertyer TH400 and shift kit.
Last run last week, 10.24 at 131 MPH. Still working on small issues but know it will run 9s. Car weights 2050 with me in it. lots of fun and room to grow. This thing pulls hard. I am amazed how well. I willl try to attach a photo.
Regards

Updating engine with different cam, Head work and depending on results, mayadd 3.73 gears with 31 inch tire. Should put car in 9.50s @ 135 MPH
Current Wallace race calculater shows ET and Speed equal HP figures @ 378 Flywheel HP. This looks realistic and if changes work as expected, looking at 450 hp figures. This is with very little money invested to have a ton of fun. Will be running as often as I can @ US 131 Dragway in Martin Michigan.

Once I get into 9s I need additional safty equipment so have to stop here for now.

I will try to post pic of car as soon as I post this .
