Default Maximum torque for a rear diff in a 1980 CDV

Hello all,

does anyone know how much torque a 1980 CDV rear end is rated for?

The 500 swap should generate something less than 400 ft lbs at peak torque.

The stock rear end is an open diff and the car should weigh about 4200 lbs.

I'll probably run the stock rear end until it lets go but I hoping it would last a at least a little while.

Thanks,

Tim

First Guess: You'll spend more on tires than on rear axles.
