Default CV joint ball on a '75 deville

After ruining a U-joint on my drive shaft I wanted to replace the U-joints and constant velocity joint on my '75 deville. I don't have the proper "ball puller" as in the shop manual so i improvised on getting the ball of the shaft.... No succes, ball ruined and so the shaft ruined.
Now I found a replacement driveshaft but the same problem pops up: Need to remove the CV ball...
The problem is that it looks like it is NOT possible to remove the ball from the shaft.
Please help me out: I heard that some balls can not be removed from the shaft, if I heard correct, how can I tell?

Many thanks from this side of the ocean.
