Default 1968 - 1973 smog pump removal kit

Till now you either had to find a 1970 pulley system or go to the late style single A/C - P/S belts
MTS now has a kit available with the pulleys, belt, head plugs and hardware so you can remove the air pump and still drive the alternator while retaining the dual P/S - A/C drive
The kit is $249.95
Also availabe is the billet alternator bracket assy for $99.95 - The alternator bracket assy is NOT required but cleans up the install and tucks the alt. closer so a different belt is needed in the kit

Now you are thinking but you should say that this also work for the 74-79 cars as well. Any car that currently has the air pump.

Thanks Ted
The other pulley set we already have (BL57) is better suited for the single belt A/C - P/S engines
Should have posted that those are available for the later engines

When MTS added the BL57 pulleys, they coud be used on the older engines, but you needed to replace the PS pulley and the AC compressor clutch.

The same would be true using this new set on the newer engines.

If no AC and you already planned to change the PS pulley (bling) then the BL57 is probably a better route.

Hello. First time posting on here, and thanks to all for making this kind of a forum exist! I have a 472 in a 72 Deville. I am running this without the compressor at the moment. So other than getting the pully system from the 70 engine, what is the single belt method alluded to above in the late models? I have an idea of what it might be, but how does that configuration work? Thanks.

1st the removal kit will work w/o ac
2nd in 74 or so Cad eliminated the redundant belt drive for the P/S - A/C and went to a wider single belt for those accessories. That means the pulley grooves at the P/S and A/C pulleys are wider also

If I have an orginal no A/C 68 deVille, would I want to pull the air pump? Is it better to rebuild/replace and keep it orginial? Never really understood what it did or what it harmed .

no real harm. Just cleans up the engine. Also if the AIR pump fails/locks up your stuck
