Re: Overdrive on a 69?

Jesse,

iirc, the '69 has 3.07-1 final drive ['67 has 3.21-1, iirc]. Cheapest option would be to swap in a later 2.73-1 final drive. Easy swap, afaik. Not sure which year they went to 2.73-1....

Re: old STREET RODDER mag. build -up (stroker 500)

flem1,

Going from memory here, so don't quote me.

Was 60 over and 4.580" stroke, iirc. 6.8" bbc rods, eagle, maybe.

The 2x4 ACME intake was blingy, and made good middle, but killed it on...

Iirc, all TH425 cases can be converted to s-p. Also, afaik, there is a gear taller than 3.08-01 in the later TH425 cars.

A '71 *probably* already has the sprag on the direct drum, and the support...

Are they reamed for a press fit BBC pin, or bushed? As in, for floating pins.

STDog,

Speedo gear goes into the case, not tail housing. At least on a 400.

Re: fwd perts 472 500

Measure the stroke [with a wire in a plug hole] and check the head casting #s, and block casting #s. It'll tell what it is. Someone might want the engine.

Re: switch pitch value?

Prices vary widely. I've seen just the conversion parts go for $250+ on ebay, and complete trannys go for close to that. On the other hand, I bought a complete '67 buick short tail bop s-p pattern...

Marc,

Fyi, the trans from the Olds toronados of same year should be pretty much identical, save perhaps the wot shift points. The '66/'67 have the lower gear [3.21-1], and a switch pitch...

Re: are the ebay rods and pistons any good?

surffly,

Most experts will tell you that hyper KBs and N20 is a big risk. If they are pinged on hard, they'll bust like glass. If you get your tune-up off and rattle it, you'll have a pile of...
