Here is my 1960 1/2 ton chevy powered by a 425 Caddy, turbo 400 combination. I love driving this thing. The most common questions/comments I get are usually "That sure is a good sounding 350!" or "What size small block is that?". I love telling them it's a big block Caddy and seeing the look on their faces.
That's pretty nice - could you tell us more about what the 425 has done to it? I think I see an edlebrock manifold in there......any more pictures?

The engine is stock, I bought the entire doner car for $75.00 and could have driven it home if the tires hadn't been dry rotted! The intake is the original cast, it was painted aluminum with a spray can while I had the motor apart putting new gaskets on it and a rear sump pan. I figured for no more than the dollar amount that is in the motor and trans, I would run it 'till it blows and either rebuild or get a fresh 500. It tachs up pretty good with the 3:93 gears in the rear. Sounds good too with 2.25" duals and cheap turbo mufflers.

Man..I like that truck...I've got a 1980 Chevy Truck with the BOP 350 in it. Since the mileage is so bad (9 mpg) I might as well put something bigger in it right?..Did you have to do any major front suspension beef-ups to make this work in your '60?...Mine was one of those with the rotten diesel so the suspension should already be a bit heavier maybe..
I believe the rear-end is a 3:73 BUT I'm not exactly sure what the diesels came with. I know not a 3:08..I've done everything to increase the mileage on the 350 BOP but to no avail. I'm told 9 to 10mpg with that mill is about all I should expect to get which with fuel today, it ain't no daily driver.
Will put a BOP TH 400,,,AND either a 472 or a 500 depending on how they run...Who knows? I might actually get better mpg because the darn mill ain't workin' so hard right?
Thanks

I did not do anything to the front end suspension, other than lower the torsion bars about 2". I am planning on swapping the rear from the donor truck into my '60 for a taller gear, simply because the aftermarket gearsets are a lot more plentiful for the later models than what is in the '60 now.

Thanks!...The fact you weren't required to put the heavier front suspension/springs is great. BTW, how were the valve seats in that ole' 425? Were they eat out due to only having no-lead gas to run on for years? I was also wondering what sort of mpg you're getting with the 425 now.

The valve seats were in good shape. I havn't officialy measured the mpg, but, I have driven the thing about 1,500 miles (It's not my everyday ride, it's a toy in progress) and I would guestimate about 9-12 MPG.
